The difference between different graphic card slots
Graphic cards are very popular among gamers around the world. When you go out in the market to buy a new or used graphics accelerator card for your gaming or business processing requirements. In reality, there are three types of graphics card ports available in the market as of today. These ports can be named as PCI, AGP and PCI Express ports.
PCI Ports
PCI ports are among the most primitive form of graphics ports available. These are white colored ports and a graphics card can be affixed on its slot. The interface usually supports variable bit rate and has a latency of 16 or 32 depending upon the type of mother board, make and model. PCI ports are almost obsolete in the market because they fail to comply with the speed requirements of latest cards.
AGP Ports
AGP ports are among the most common types of graphics acceleration ports available in the market. Aas compared to PCI ports, AGP ports are 4 - 8 times faster in performance and processing which means the data can travel at a much faster pace. AGP ports are smaller in size as compared to PCI ports. AGP ports are brown in color. AGP ports are suitable for gaming and business processing but the more modren computers have replaced these ports with PCI Express ports.
PCI Express Ports
PCI Express ports are the most modren type of graphics accelerator ports. All of the modren graphics ccelerator cards come with PCI Express interface. PCI Express ports are white in color but are much smaller. Two types of PCI Express ports are available, PCI Express 1.0 and PCI Express 2.0. These ports have 16 to 32 times faster speeds than PCI slots.
